Addressing a Militarised Police in the USA

How can Americans get their police to serve them again?

The American police kills more because they are trained to do just that. They are trained to identify confrontational objects as the enemy and eliminate them. They are not a police force, they are military in police uniforms.

War is often waged overseas to protect citizens at home. If American civilians are citizens, why then is war being waged against them at home?

According to the Guardian’s Counted- a database of fatal police shootings, there has been a total of 932 fatalities caused by use of deadly force by police in the first 10 months of 2015. 25% of these were of unarmed civilians, 6% of whom were female. In Australia, police killed 94 people over the course of 19 years from 1992. In the United Kingdom over the last 24 years, police killed 55 people. German police killed 15 people from 2010 to 2011. Iceland’s police killed one person over the last 71 years!
Now listen to this, in 2013, the police force in Finland fired six bullets. In the February 2015 police shooting of Antonio Montes in Pasco, Washington, three police officers fired a whopping 17 bullets at a man who had his hands in the air!
If American civilians are citizens, why then is war being waged against them at home?

Civilians like you who said, I can’t breathe and I have my hands in the air got choked and shot by the American police. Were they not citizens?

Civilians like you, a child in fact who was playing around with a toy gun, got shot to death by the American police. Was he not a child, was he not a citizen?

Civilians like you, pulled over for failing to signal a car pointer and for flashing their head lamps, died in the custody of and got killed  by gunshots of the American police. They were women and teenagers, were they not citizens too?

Everyone here living in this great country deserves the rights due to them of their citizenship, of respect and honor when those paid by you to protect you engage with you. Your encounter with the police should not result in you lying in the morgue, dead!

Why is it that the American police kills more citizens than the police of other developed countries? Is it because they have arms, well in Australia they got arms too? Is it because they are trigger happy, everyone knows that even ISIS kills for a reason.

The American police kills more because they are trained to do just that. They are trained to identify confrontational objects as the enemy and eliminate them. They are not a police force, they are military in police uniforms.

The solution to reducing police killings in America is to retrain them to become less confrontational with the public. They should engage with civilians not from the position of authority figures but more like public servants which they are.

I understand that some may argue that police are people who want to get back to their families and in a country as the USA where you don’t know who carries a gun or not, that the level of aggressiveness is in fact justified. I do not agree with this notion. With proper demilitarized training, police will be better informed to keep a safe distance between themselves and suspects they think may be armed. Once sure that they are in no danger, they may then engage within safe range and never alone.

If Americans refuse to get their government to hold the police force to account over how they engage with civilians, how much worse do you imagine it might get before they kill your loved ones or maybe even you?

Take action now! Call your local government representative, write to district police commissioner, petition your senator. If you are an American citizen, take action to get the American police to engage to keep you alive and not to leave you dead.
