Should Africa add value to its raw commodities before exporting?

Adding value to raw commodity exports is often touted as the way for Africa to earn more on its exports.

However how much extra each African country earns depends on their respective competitiveness in processing the value add into their various commodities.

Sometimes it may be best to just export in raw form.

Ultimately what is most important is for the various countries to ensure they are earning a fair share on each export and diversifying into new adjacent industries.
